FAQs

Q?

Do I need a translator or an interpreter?

A.

Translators work with documents, interpreters work with the spoken word. Translators usually work remotely using specialised translation software, word processors and web design tools whereas interpreters work on-site alongside you and your clients.

Q?

How do I get a translation quote?

A.

In order to give you a quote, QIKtrad needs to analyse its density and terminology. So when you are asking for a quote, please send the scanned documents attached to the request. If it is too large, please send at least 15 pages thereof so that we can calculate our elements for quotation. QIKtrad makes its best efforts to protect its customers privacy and is fully committed to complying with the basic principles of confidentiality. For more information, please read our privacy policy.

Q?

How do I place my order?

A.

We accept orders by e-mail: [email protected]. The orders should include the clear statement that you accept our quotation and want to order the respective job, as well as your name, company (if applicable) and contact data.

Q?

I need a certified/sworn translation. How does that work?

A.

After going through the simple process of quotation request and ordering the job, you will need to send your original documents to QIKtrad's office. According to the Portuguese applicable laws, a certified translation (also designated as "sworn" translation) has to be attached to the respective original, or else it won't be deemed a legal and official document. That means the original will be definitely stapled to the translation and to the certification cover page, as well as signed, stamped and numbered in the upper right corners. If those documents are detached from each other, the certified translation will lose its legal validity. QIKtrad will only start the translation job after receiving the original document from the client.

Q?

Who certifies the translation?

A.

In Portugal, sworn translations require the services of a legal authority: Solicitor, Notary Public or the Consulate. The legal value of a translation certification done by any of those legal authorities is exactly the same, although their fees differ from each other. In our quotation, we will include all the fees charged by those three certification options, so that you can make an informed choice. You will decide where the QIKtrad's sworn translator will certify your translation. If you are in doubt on which option you should select, QIKtrad recommends that you ask to the entity that requested the sworn translation in the first place if they have any preference whether it is certified by a Solicitor, Notary Public or the Consulate.

Q?

What language is the certification document in?

A.

The certification document is always written in the language your original document was translated into, so that it can be read and understood by the entity your translation is aimed at.

Q?

Do I need a certified copy of the original document for my sworn translation?

A.

We recommend that you also request us a certified copy of the original document if the original might be considered as being unique and irreplaceable or if you want to keep it for yourself. When the certifying authority (Solicitor, Notary Public or Consulate) certifies the translation, the original is stapled to the translation and to the certification cover page, as well as signed, stamped and numbered in the upper right corners, losing its quality of single autonomous document. If the certified translation documents are detached from each other, the certified translation loses its legal validity. Our customers usually ask for certified copies when their original documents are diplomas, transcripts, birth and marriage certificates, and other documents they do not want to be without.

Q?

Do certified/sworn translations have a validity period?

A.

No. As long as you don't detach or violate the stapled certified documents, the sworn translation is legally valid.

Q?

Can you subtitle any kind of film?

A.
